Dead Beat Dads
Men who think that their wives were mean before the divorce will see a whole new level of meanness if they become dead beat dads. Dead beat dads are those guys who don't pay their child support. They are usually vilified in movies and by the general public.
Some dead beat dads are truly deadbeats and do not want to pay anything to anyone. They can walk away from their wife and children without a backward glance. But this is the minority. A great man of the dead beat dads want to pay child support, but cannot afford the amount that the court orders them to pay. They miss a payment or two and what do you know, they are labeled dead beat dads.
There are a lot of guys out there who are considered to be dead beat dads but who are not deadbeats. Many of them pay as much as they can when it comes to child support payments, but also need money for themselves to live. Pete was one of those dead beat dads.
Pete's wife divorced him and the court ordered that she get 35 percent of his salary for the support of their three kids. Pete didn't have a decent job or an education. He was having a hard enough time supporting his family before the divorce. The divorce attorney picked his bones dry and her attorney roasted them over a fire. The judge was no help. Pete had to move in with his parents to pay his child support payments. Meanwhile, his wife got the house and a new boyfriend moved in. On top of everything, she started messing with the visitation. Not wanting to be one of those dead beat dads, Pete kept paying and then called his vulture lawyer for advice. His lawyer said that he could file a rule to show cause against his ex wife, but it was going to cost him. Pete didn't have the money to pay because all of his earnings were going towards food and his kids.
Not that Pete minded supporting the kids. He loved them. That is one of the misconceptions about dead beat dads. Most often, it is the moms who want to continue to punish the ex-husband by jacking them around with visitation. Determined not to become one of the dead beat dads, Pete kept paying child support. Then he lost his job.
Pete missed a few payments and then tried to catch up, paying what he could. And what happens? His ex wife has him tossed in jail for being one of the dead beat dads. He has no job, no money and no where to turn. Fortunately, the judge took mercy and allowed him to keep some of his unemployment money to eat, but had it not been for the judge and his parents, Pete would be on the streets.
